Cavaliers are the kind of dog that really enjoy company, and actually only thrive when people are around. They will therefore not be going if you are, due to circumstances, will have them by themselves roughly 4 or more hours each day. Other dogs keeping them company will satisfy them as well. Character wise you will not notice any difference between males or females, due to their submissiveness.
