11th Edition (1910) Vols. I to IV (A to CAL), Vols. VI to XII (CHA to HAR), and Vol. XXVII (TON to VES), plus
13th Edition (1926), three volumes, AAL to ZUY.
These books are of incredible historical interest, providing that what interests you begins with the initials included above. British Columbia is certainly present (complete with map, q.v.), but not Manitoba, for example. Sidney seems to have been spelled “Sydney,” as in Australia (of which there is also a lovely map).
The pages are in pretty good shape, and the volumes are intact, but the covers – leather – are beginning to turn into powder around the edges. Not terribly, but definitely.
If this offering appeals to anybody, it would be an odd duck who enjoys what our not-too-distant ancestors had to say about things, and their conceptions and misconceptions, and what things were known and what unknown nearly a century ago. For such odd ducks, if any exist, the price is a trifling $25. Anybody normal has to pay more.
