Youth Outreach Counsellor
Part-time 28 hours/week, Eligible health benefits included
Breakaway is a multifunction addiction treatment agency that provides a range of outpatient, day treatment and outreach programs. We are strongly committed to providing innovative community services from a harm reduction perspective. We strive to make our programs accessible to all community members, particularly those who frequently encounter barriers to traditional services.
The Family and Youth Initiatives Program (FYI) provides outpatient services to youth 13 to 25 and their families who are struggling with problems related to substance misuse and/or exhibiting high risk behaviours. We provide individual, group and family support and counselling, as well as outreach to schools and youth centers.
Qualifications:
•Minimum three to five years of outreach experience and supportive counselling;
•Experience in working with youth;
•Self-starter who is able to work creatively and autonomously in a school environment;
•Valid driver’s license and vehicle required.
Responsibilities:
•Build, maintain, and work with a variety of youth serving organizations and institutions (e.g. schools, justice system, etc.);
•Create and deliver presentations to youth in schools and community youth agencies;
•Maintain accurate and up-to-date client case notes and files;
•Ability to work within a Harm Reduction framework;
•Provide supportive counseling and offer referrals as appropriate.
