Volunteer Positions for the 29th Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards
The Dora Mavor Moore Awards honour the creators of over 200 theatre, dance and opera productions annually in five major categories:
~ General Theatre
~ Independent Theatre
~ Dance
~ Opera
~ Theatre for Young Audiences
Each winner receives a bronze statue cast from an original by sculptor John Romano.
The Doras are named for Dora Mavor Moore, a well-loved teacher and director who helped establish Canadian professional theatre in the 1930s and 1940s.
Volunteer Job Descriptions:
Drivers (2 teams of 2): Pick-up donated food from restaurants and deliver it to the After Party venue. The driver stays in the car while the food runner goes into the restaurant to eliminate the need to park.
VIP Reception Crew: Help set up the VIP Reception venue for the event and restore the space after the event. This will involve moving furniture, so volunteers should be in good physical health.
Greeters: Provide a friendly greeting to all guests as they enter the VIP Reception venue and provide directions, where needed, to the Awards Ceremony and After Party. In the event of bad weather, these volunteers will also be responsible for coat check
Front of House: Help guide guests from the lobby to the theatre and hand out programs.
Food Set-up Crew: Assist the FOOD CAPTAIN by bringing food dropped off at the theatre to the kitchen.
Party Crew: Assist in transfer of food from the kitchen to tables pre-party and during the party. Assist with filling of trays and ensuring the party area looks well tended. Ensuring linens, cutlery and china are set out. This job may be physically demanding due to the layout of the venue.
All volunteers will be required to attend a volunteer orientation session taking place in May (exact date T.B.C). Volunteers will also be required to attend a separate volunteer meeting in June ( exact date T.B.C) and must be available on June 30, 2008, the date of the Dora Award Show ceremony.
