TCM generally fits acne into 4 main patterns. See if you resonate with any of the patterns below.
1. Excessive Heat in the Lungs
Common in teenagers or the initial stages, usually include red papules ( red, no pus) and pustules ( pus filled) that are quick to form and disperse. Tend to congregate around the chin, nose and forehead.
2. Damp Heat
More pronounced pustules ( pus filled) and painful. More widespread especially on cheeks, around mouth and often includes digestion problems such as constipation, bloating, loose bowels, poor appetite, distention after eating, foul breath etc.
3. Heat in Blood
Acne around the chin and jaw line, can be both papules and pustules and sometimes painful. Usually this acne gets worse before the period, and improves afterwards. Painful Periods and PMS are usually present.
4. Blood Stasis
Deep Active Pustules, mixture of inflamed and painful nodules and cysts, with scarring. This Acne is slow to form and disperse
