Description:

I.Description
-The Unix Administrator’s role is to design, install, configure, administer, tune, and optimize Unix systems servers and related components to achieve high availability and performance of the various business applications supported.
II. Responsibilities
-Lead, coordinate and participate in key process improvements.
-Participate in design and review of new systems and applications.
-Coordinate with network engineering, business application, and database administration function to ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of Unix systems to meet business demands.
-Perform file system configuration and management.
-Create Unix shell scripts.
-Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software problems.
-Define and perform system backups and recovery procedures.
-Monitor and test system performance and provide performance statistics and reports.
-Define and implement strategies for integrating Unix and non-Unix operating environments.
-Recommend and execute modifications to Unix systems in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.
-Establish and implement policies, procedures, and technologies (including firewalls) to ensure Unix system security.
-Conduct research on Unix-related hardware and software in support of procurement and system development efforts.
-Review and implement new Unix system releases and vendor supplied patches.
-Develop and maintain Unix training materials and systems documentation.
-Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team.
III. Skills
Education
-Community College Graduation: 3 or Grade 12 with up to three years or equivalent program, with preferred requirement of other vocational or professional certification.
-2-3 Year College Diploma in computer related program
-A+ required, Unix Admin Certification preferred
Relevant Experience
-Three to four years demonstrated experience implementing and supporting network solutions preferredly in an HPUX environment
-Experience installing, configuring, administering and troubleshooting Network and server environments
-Experience configuring and supporting of Cisco devices
-Experience implementing and supporting of network services
Other Skills
-Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.
-Highly self motivated and directed.
-Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail.
-Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

Salary $50,000-$55,000
