Are you depressed?

You may be depressed, if you have been experiencing five or more, of the following symptoms for more than 4 week and if they represent a significant change from your usual functioning.

1. depressed mood
2. lost of interest or pleasure
3. weight loss or gain
4. insomnia or hypersomnia
5. fatigue, loss of energy
6. agitation or motor retardation
7. low self-esteem, feeling guilty
8. difficult to concentrate or make decisions
9. thoughts of death or dying

You may be interested in participating in a clinical research study. Its goal is to measure the efficacy of a new experimental antidepressant medication and a classical antidepressant in comparison with a placebo in the treatment of major depression.

Your participation will require blood drawing and an electrocardiogram. You will be followed by a team of researchers (2 psychiatrists and 1 nurse) throughout the study. In order to participate in the study you have to fulfill some criteria.

Selection Criteria
Man or women between 18 and 65 of age
Diagnosis of Major depression
Physical condition within normal limits
Efficacious contraceptive method for women
of childbearing potential

Main Exclusion Criteria
Nursing mother or desire of being pregnant
Having participated in a study within 3 month
Alcohol or drug problems

The duration of the study will be up to 8 weeks. The company who sponsor the research project for the whole duration of the study will provide the medication. You will not be paid for your participation.
